Started Looking For A Rental House

Well…we are getting close to the end of our lease of our apartment.  It will be up at the end of November, so we need to give notice by November 1st.  So I’ve started looking for rentals in our area.  I found one yesterday, and went to take a look at it.  It wasn’t too bad.  It was clean and spacious, but it just needed updating.  The floor tiles in the kitchen need to be replaced.  I wasn’t too impressed with it.  That was the only one I looked at though.  I may just put it off for a couple more weeks, because this one was available now, and we couldn’t possibly move in that soon.

Thanks for stopping by My Mama Drama!

We Might Be Moving Again…

I’m not talking cross country moving or anything, but moving to another place.  When we moved this summer, we thought doing the “apartment thing” for a while would be better for us.  Save on some utilities and stuff.  I just didn’t realize how loud your upstairs neighbors can be.  I swear I don’t remember the walking across the floor being this bad when I have lived in apartments before.  Sometimes it sounds like they are going to fall through, and it wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t at 2AM in the morning!!!  Last night, I swear I awoke to the sound of a bed squeaking above me.  Hmmm, wonder what they could have been doing???  Ummm…yeah, a little TMI for me! LOL

When we moved in, we signed a 6 month lease, so it’s up in November.  After that we can go month to month if we want until we find something.  In the meantime, I’ve been looking at houses for rent in our area, we really shouldn’t have a problem finding one.  I have a map of our school zone, and have an idea which neighborhoods we need to keep our eye on and what price range we can afford.  Just hoping that we won’t have to search very long!!  Wish us luck!!

Finally Moved!!

My goodness!  It has been wayyy too long since I’ve updated.  We finally moved!  Yippee! Since I last posted, we were planning to move in March, but we had another set back and ultimately decided to wait until the end of the school year.  And we are really glad we did that now.  We’ve been here for about 3 weeks, and we are loving it!  My MIL lives only about 2 miles from us, and has already been a tremendous help to us. The school district is awesome here, and I’ve already got Christopher and Allie registered for school.  This school is grades K – 5, so it’s nice knowing that they will be there for a while, and so that means in the mornings we will have only one school to go to.  This past year, they were at 2 different schools on differents sides of town. From what I understand, they’ve got a great special ed program, they are completely aware of Christopher’s special needs and have copies of his IEP.  I hope to have a meeting with the Special Education teacher right before school starts.

So….look like everything seems to be falling into place.  We still haven’t sold our house yet.  We still have some cleaning to do before we put it on the market, and plan to do that next week.

Well…just wanted post a quick update!  Hope to keep this blog updated more often!

Been A Long Time

Hope everyone had an awesome holiday and Happy New Year!  We had a wonderful Christmas.  Let’s just say, Santa was very good to us this year!  We really enjoyed spending time with our family and this year was the first in a while, that we were all well during the holidays.  The past couple years, we were either dealing with a nasty stomach bug or runny noses and sore throats.  So having healthy kids this season, was a nice change.

The kids finally went back to school yesterday.  Surprisingly, they were actually ready to go back.  Christopher received some Thomas and Friends reading books, and he just couldn’t wait to show his teacher!

Steven is still commuting, so we haven’t moved yet.  We wanted to enjoy the holidays, so we decided to put it on hold.  He doesn’t mind driving right now, and the cheaper gas prices have helped tremendously.  We are still planning to move though.  We are just going to take our time.  We are looking for a house in a specific area, so we can get our kids in the school zoned to that area.  Also, fortuantely, we already have a buyer for our house, and they aren’t in any rush, since they either plan to rent it out or fix it up and resell it.  So we have plenty of time, and we don’t have to stress over it, which is nice.

I finished 2 books over the holidays.  Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr and The Host by Stephenie Meyer.  Both great reads, and although Ink Exchange wasn’t as good as Wicked Lovely, it held my interest.  The Host was a pleasant surprise.  I would have liked to have had more dialogue, a little too much description for my taste, but still an awesome concept, and anyone into Sci-Fi novels, should definitely check it out!  Right now, I’m reading This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen.  I’m enjoying it, but I’m missing the fantasy genre.

a-great-and-terrible-beautyNext up will be, A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray.  I’ve heard excellent reviews of the book, and I can’t wait to get started on it.  Part of me, wants to just stop reading my current book, and start that one, but I hate to start something and not finish it, so I’m going to try to get through it.  I’m almost halfway done.

Ok…that’s about it for now, I promise to blog more.  That’s one of my New Year’s Resolutions.  Hopefully, I can stick with it.  Wish me luck!! :)

Another Milestone for Christopher

Yep…Christopher lost his first tooth this morning.  I was helping him get his teeth brushed and he sometimes doesn’t do it properly, so per the pediatrician’s suggestion, I sometimes wipe his teeth clean with a little toothpaste on a cloth.  Well, as I was doing that, I wiped the bottom ones, and looked at the cloth and there it was, just lying there on the cloth!  I was so surprised, because he had not once mentioned that he had a loose tooth.  I just looked at him, and said, “Christopher!  You just lost your first tooth!”  And he didn’t know what to think of it.  I have been trying to prepare him for it, and kept telling him to let me know if one of his teeth feels loose.  In a way, though, I’m kind of glad it happened this way.  Because I’m sure I would have been worrying over it.  So here’s a snapshot of my toothless kid in all his glory!  *Sniff* My baby is growing up right before my eyes!

Good News

I have some good news.  Steven was pulled aside by his supervisor the other night.  She asked him if he would agree to attend their craps class (remember he works in a casino).  They are interested in promoting him to Dual Rate Supervisor, but only if he can attend their craps class.  He has already taken one with the company he previously worked for, but every casino does things a little differently.  So he has agreed to do it.  I told him that if he really wants to commit to this, then we need to move down there.  He can not continue to drive.  It’s costing us around $35 a day in gas.  Which is not good at all.  We could definitely be using that money in other areas.  He feels really good about this.  It makes him feel like they are taking him seriously.

So, this sounds like a good sign to me.  What do you think?

Meeting Postponed & Our Trip to BR

Well…Christopher’s teacher called this morning and asked if we could postpone the meeting until next Thursday.  I told her I didn’t have a problem with it.  I was having a bad morning anyway, and was going to have to take the twins with me, because Steven didn’t get in from work until 5AM this morning.  He was in no shape to watch them.  So in a way, I was kind of relieved it had been postponed, but a little disappointed too, because I was looking forward to getting something worked out for Christopher.

And still, there is this possibility of us moving, and wondering if it is something we should put him through right now.  Even after our visit to BR last week, we are still feeling disenchanted with the place.  The day started out great.  We stopped at the zoo first thing and the kids really enjoyed it.  From there, I phoned the woman that I was supposed to be meeting to see the house.  She had told me in an email to call her after 12pm.  So that’s exactly what I was doing.  When I asked her when we could see the house, she said, “How about Saturday?”  And I’m just sitting there, speechless, then I say, “Well, we were here today, is there anyway possible we could see it today?”  And she say, “Oh no, I’m in New Orleans.”  I felt like saying, “Well…it would have been nice of you to inform me of that in the emails.”  So I told her that we would meet her on Saturday, and we would ride by the house today.  Well, as soon as we got to the neighborhood, we realized that it was not the neighborhood for us, so that was a bust.

And then at that point, the kids were tired, and we were ready to get to the hotel.  So we found the hotel, and they tried to give us some crap about how we had to use our credit card to pay for the room. I had used it to reserve the room, but didn’t have the full amount available on it because I planned to use cash when we got there, but they wouldn’t have it.  So we ended up finding another place that was just as nice, and $20 cheaper, so it all worked out.

So, once again, we didn’t have that great of an experience in BR. We are just having a hard time with this decision.  It’s very confusing times, and very stressful.  Causing major drama, because Steven and I can’t seem to agree on what’s best.  I’m just hoping that something will happen, a sign or something, that will solidify things one way or the other.  I’m just ready to make a decision and stick with it.  That what’s my mama would always say to me, when I was having a dilemma.  Once you make a decision, stick with it and you will feel so much better.  Boy I sure could use her advice right now.
