Busy Weekend!

Wow!  The last few days have been non-stop.  Friday, my brother and his wife came down, camped out and so the kids and I got to visit with them for a bit.  Then Saturday my entire family got together for my dad’s 80th birthday.  It was great!  We reserved the fellowship hall at my other brother and SIL’s church.  There were five sons and daughters (I have 3 brothers and a sister) and each one’s spouse, 12 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.  My dad’s brother and his wife were there too. So we had quite a big group to feed.  Each of us brought our own favorite dish and drinks. It was really nice, and my dad really enjoyed it.  While everyone was just mingling and the kids were playing, my dad just sat back and took it all in.  I’m sure he would have enjoyed it much more if my mom had been there, but other than that, I think he had a great time.  Of course, we had to get pictures of each family with him, and he was such a good sport.  This was probably the first time in like 2 years that all of us have been able to get together at the same time.  So I’m so glad we were able to do it.

What surprised me the most, was how well behaved my kids were.  Christopher immediately found someone to latch on to, my nephew’s fiance.  She’s adorable and she’s studying to be an elementary teacher, so she really had a way with him.  The only thing was, he was very sad to see her go.  He really has a tough time saying goodbye sometimes.  Allie was also surprisingly good, but my 10 year old neice was a huge help in keeping her occupied.  We don’t get to see my sister’s kids very often, so they were really excited to see each other.  She had brought Allie a whole suitcase of “dress up” closes.  Let’s just say, I had one really happy little girl.  She’s still playing with them and is so cute carrying her little suitcase around.  I also got two huge bags of “hand-me-downs” in size 5 and 6.  So at least, I won’t have to worry about buying a bunch of school clothes for her this fall.

So yeah, although things were hectic at times, I’m so glad we got to see each other and celebrate my dad’s birthday.  Definitely a day we will all never forget.

My little girl turned 4 years old yesterday, and here’s a few pics from the birthday celebration. We had a wonderful time, and it was nice to be able to spend time together as a family. So yes, a very busy weekend, so I didn’t get a chance to post much. Enjoy!! :)

Update On Life With the Family

I’m making a vow to myself to post more on here. I’ve kind of neglected this blog, and I promise to do better. Just wanted to post a quick update on how things are going.

We got our tax refund last month, and that was nice. We were able to get a lot of things paid off and bills caught up. So, that felt really good. It’s almost gone though.

My Sis Is Coming For A Visit!

My sister and I have been trying to get together for the past six or seven months, and something has always come up or a kid would get sick, and we wouldn’t be able to follow through with it.  Well, as I’m typing this, she should be one her way here to Mississippi from Louisiana!  I’m so excited!  We don’t really have a bunch planned, just hanging out and visiting.  We’ll be back and forth between my house and my dad’s.  It will be a fun time.

Christopher Won His First Art Contest! – Updated Pic!!

About a month ago, all of the students in the school district, including the Kindergarten, were given the opportunity to create a Christmas Card with some kind of Christmas scene. Well…the other day, Christopher’s teacher informed me that he had won the contest for his school, and he was one out of ten students that were chosen for the entire school district. He and the other students’ Christmas card artwork will be used on the school district’s 2007 Christmas Cards that will be sent out all over the state of Mississippi and to the President of the U.S. They also invited us to attend their weekly school board meeting last week, where Christopher was recognized and given a Christmas stocking full of goodies. He was so excited, and I was so proud of him, because he really behaved himself and sat still at the board meeting, and then walked up to receive his reward all by himself. I could have cried, my little boy is growing up! Hopefully, next week, they will be giving us the artwork back, so I can post it. It’s a Christmas tree, with Garfield dressed up in a Santa’s suit, of course.

Sleeping Issues

We’ve been having trouble getting Christopher to bed at night. One of the problems is, we’ve been laying down with him at night since he was 15 months old. He would go to sleep in his own bed, but we would lay down with him, then once he was asleep, we would get up. Well, about 3 months ago, the street light right outside his window went out. From that point on, he would not go to sleep in his room. We even tried leaving his lamp on all night, and he wouldn’t have any of it. So we started letting him sleep in our bed. But the problem is, the babies are sleeping in there too. So when we go in there to get him to go to sleep, we are afraid he will wake them up. He talks constantly and it’s hard to get him to whisper or to just be quiet for that matter.

We are thinking about moving the twins into his room. This will just be temporary, until they get a little bit older, then we will move all three girls in a room together. I just feel awful taking his room away. He does still spend time in there, he just doesn’t sleep in there. And now the street light is fixed. We’ve tried to get him to go back, but he absolutely refuses and starts screaming and we are afraid he will wake up everyone in the house. So we just give in, and let him sleep in our room. Something has to be done, I know. We just have got to figure it out.
