Wow! The last few days have been non-stop. Friday, my brother and his wife came down, camped out and so the kids and I got to visit with them for a bit. Then Saturday my entire family got together for my dad’s 80th birthday. It was great! We reserved the fellowship hall at my other brother and SIL’s church. There were five sons and daughters (I have 3 brothers and a sister) and each one’s spouse, 12 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. My dad’s brother and his wife were there too. So we had quite a big group to feed. Each of us brought our own favorite dish and drinks. It was really nice, and my dad really enjoyed it. While everyone was just mingling and the kids were playing, my dad just sat back and took it all in. I’m sure he would have enjoyed it much more if my mom had been there, but other than that, I think he had a great time. Of course, we had to get pictures of each family with him, and he was such a good sport. This was probably the first time in like 2 years that all of us have been able to get together at the same time. So I’m so glad we were able to do it.
What surprised me the most, was how well behaved my kids were. Christopher immediately found someone to latch on to, my nephew’s fiance. She’s adorable and she’s studying to be an elementary teacher, so she really had a way with him. The only thing was, he was very sad to see her go. He really has a tough time saying goodbye sometimes. Allie was also surprisingly good, but my 10 year old neice was a huge help in keeping her occupied. We don’t get to see my sister’s kids very often, so they were really excited to see each other. She had brought Allie a whole suitcase of “dress up” closes. Let’s just say, I had one really happy little girl. She’s still playing with them and is so cute carrying her little suitcase around. I also got two huge bags of “hand-me-downs” in size 5 and 6. So at least, I won’t have to worry about buying a bunch of school clothes for her this fall.
So yeah, although things were hectic at times, I’m so glad we got to see each other and celebrate my dad’s birthday. Definitely a day we will all never forget.

That sounds like a fun day! I love it when my entire family can get together, but like you said, it seems so rare nowadays… Someone is always missing.

It sounds like a great time to me! We went to a family reunion last month and I was equally impressed by my kid’s behavior, although a bit perplexed as to why they don’t act like that at home! *sigh*
