How Do You Tame A Run-Away 4 Year Old???

I am at my wit’s end! Here recently, one of Allie’s favorite things to do when we walk outside, is just take off running down the street. Luckily, Steven has been out there, because he can run a lot faster than I can. And I mean to tell ya, there is nothing stopping her! Every now and then, she’ll fall for the, “There’s a bug!! A bug is coming after you!!” trick. But those times are becoming few and far between. The other day she made it almost half way around the block. We had just gotten home from a trip to the park, and I made the mistake of getting her out of the van first, and there she went!! Steven took off running, and I wasn’t sure he was going to catch her this time, so I buckled Christopher back in his seat, and started pulling out of the driveway, but then saw Steven walking back down the street with her on his shoulders. I seriously don’t know what to do with this child. We try not to spank our kids, it just doesn’t seem to work, and I feel so awful when I do it. She won’t stay in “time out”. I’m thinking I may have to call Super Nanny or something, it’s really getting out of hand.

D’oh! My 3 year old does the same thing. I’m at my wits end with him as well. He tries my patience to NO end! Good luck. If you get in touch with Super Nanny, send her my way when your finished.

Yikes, that would be scary! I you can find something that works with her. There have been so many times over the past few years that I’ve wanted to call Super Nanny. I almost needed her today in fact while at the mall. LOL!

I know I only have one, and he is a bit younger, but judging from the latest developments, I’m fearing he’ll be doing this when we are on vacation with my entire family this fall, at a really huge theme park (the mouse one)!

I have a harness (monkey backpack, with a tail that mom or dad hold), and I intend to use it. I just hope it works!

Leash baby leash…If not, make sure you are always holding her whenever you’re outside.

Have you tried any consequences?

When you come up with an answer on that one… let me know. I’m having similar issues with mine at the moment!

((((HUGS)))

My two year old boy, well actually he is 29 months started doing the same thing right when he turned two. We use to be able to yell, STOP!
but that doesn’t really work anymore. It is amazing how fast your body can move when it needs to. One day my son started running for the street as I had turned around to shut off the hose. As I was running for him and screaming stop I could hear a car coming and new they would never see him around the parked car out front. I do not know where it came from, but my body kicked into some unknown gear I have and I caught him just as he rounded the parked car. Even writting this I have goose bumps at just remembering what happened. Needless to say I shaken to my very core that day.
