The other day I received a comment on a previous post about the Mississippi River Flood of 2008. From what I understand, my blog is ranking pretty high in Google for keywords related to the flood. I’ve been getting quite a bit of hits. Anyway, the person that left the comment had some pretty nasty things to say about me and my blog. The comment was deleted, but here’s what they said:
“I’m looking online for some serious news about the floods and I come across this ridiculous site. Why on earth would I care what you or your husband think about anything. Oh yeah, SAHM I guess you have time to write driveling nonsense about nothing.”
Yeah…this person, who absolutely has no idea who I am, decided they would just come on to MY blog and bash me. It really pissed me off. Of course I had to repsond:
“Yay! That just means my site is ranking good. Thanks for letting me know!”
I know, I know. Totally snarky on my part, but what would you have said?? Then she writes back and oh yeah…she had the total nerve to put her REAL name and email address, so that’s how we were corresponding with each other. Here’s what she said:
“That just means your site is in the way of getting serious and pertinent information.”
So…yep. This woman pissed me off even more. So I decided to check the “who is” on her IP and I found out her address. So this was my reply:
“Why would you say something so mean to someone you don’t even know?? You know nothing about me. I hope you really feel good about yourself. And just because I’m a SAHM, doesn’t mean I sit around and do nothing all day long. I’m a very busy lady. And my “ridiculous sites” actually make me quite a bit of money.
Also, you ought to be very careful about where you leave comments because after doing a little digging and investigating, I was able to find out your address and where you live. Of course, I would never do anything with that information. But one day you might come across someone that might do otherwise.
So I would be careful if I were you. Just FYI.
Take care, and I hope you have a wonderful evening. :)”
And this was her reply back:
“If you are willing to put your self up a website you should be ready to get feedback. I’m not sure what your knowing where I live has to do with anything. Anybody can find out where anyone lives these days. I’m off to try to find some info about the terrible situation with the flooding. I will delete any further message from you.”
Haha! Of course, I emailed her back, I mean, how could I resist? And I’m thinking, “Man…this will make a great blog post!” Here’s my last reply, and I wonder if she read it, since said she would delete it?
“That wasn’t feedback. It was cruel and mean. End of story. Like I said, I hope you feel really good about yourself.
Just remember…Karma’s a bitch!
TTFN!”
Now seriously, I can’t figure out what pissed her off so bad about my blog?? Is it really ridiculous? Now I’ll be honest, I actually felt bad after I posted about my husband being out of work due to the flood, because he and I were looking forward to our time together with the family, due to his casino closing. I did add something at the end expressing how I truly felt about the flood situation, and this wasn’t about the current flooding that is going on now. This was a couple of months ago. What’s going on now is such a tragedy. I’ve never seen anything like it. My heart goes out to the families that are going through this.
This is what I’m thinking of doing, because I in no way, want to come across as uncaring. I’ve been getting tons of hits on my site from people searching about the flood. And I’m thinking of deleting my post that’s getting all of the hits. I would love some feedback. Does anyone think I should delete the post?

I would have just deleted her comment. People like that are just idiots - and if she is looking for serious information on the floods, why is she searching blogs?
Anyhow, I’ll have to wait for her to show up on my site, as I’ve been listing high for a few flood-related searches, since I live in the midst of part of the flooding mess (not Iowa and am feeling very sorry for them) and have been posting pictures and the like.
You are fine. Don’t delete the post. You have the date on it and everything… Besides, I think somehow you were ranked near mine on info for flooding, and that is how I found you and commented the first time.
You are fine. Don’t worry about it.

Hey, it’s not your fault that google is ranking you high. I mean seriously. If I guy comes to my house complaining that he came to the wrong place because my address is slightly different from his original destination I would probably pop him…
I love how you handled the situation. People who give feedback like that are usually miserable people and the sad part of it all is that they don’t even realize that they are miserable.

Thanks RC! That makes me feel tons better. Yeah..I guess you are right..she is just one idiot out of probably many more other people that might come across my blog and like what they see, and continue to read and comment, just as you have.
And thanks so much for sticking around!

Thanks Chris! RC’s probably right, I probably should have deleted the comment, and left it at that. But I guess I’ve just always been known to “fly off the handle” from time to time, and I guess this was one of those times.

I wouldn’t delete the post but maybe edited to add something about the current flood situation.

Yeah, that’s definitely an idea. It’s an old post, so I may add something to the top of the post, stating “if someone is looking for information regarding the current flood situation” and then give them a good link to a website that is covering it.

good for you Ruthie. don’t let those idiots get ya down.
hhhmmm, but how do you get their home address from their IP address? or did I misread you somehow?

Yeah…I think the address that comes up is the internet service providers address. I’m sure there are ways though.

Apparently your rude commenter cannot read. Search results rarely give only a headline for stories. Blow off the illiterate hack. It takes all kinds to make a world and this one is proof positive !

Nah, I would not even worry about it.
Why did she keep reading if this was not the info she was looking for? All she had to do was hit the back button.
Crazy!

What a moron. People like that lead pretty sad and pathetic lives. I feel sorry for her. Just another one of those people that seem to think the world revolves around them.

Your blog, just delete the idiocy. Your house, your rules.
Nice to find another mom who blogs about autism.

I really dislike anonymous trolls who have nothing better to do than berate others. Sounds like this woman has too much time on her hands as it is. After all, she COULD HAVE just hit the little red X in the upper right hand corner and continued on her search to find exactly what she was looking for.
I like the comment Chris made on the subject.
Anyway, your blog is far from ridiculous! In fact, it is one of my favorite reads! Rock on girl and don’t let the trolls get you down!

Thanks Kellie! What a wonderful comment and compliment!

Haha! People are so lame! She probably just discovered the internet last Tuesday, otherwise she wouldn’t be so surprised and indignant to stumble upon A BLOG. I don’t know what it is about being online that makes people drop all social graces, but they will pound away at an email or a blog comment, saying things they wouldn’t dream of telling a person face to face. The anonymity of being behind a computer screen really brings out the douchebag in people! You’re right, though, karma is a bitch, and the longer she goes around being hateful to perfect strangers the less content she’s going to become in her own miserable life.
