About a month ago, all of the students in the school district, including the Kindergarten, were given the opportunity to create a Christmas Card with some kind of Christmas scene. Well…the other day, Christopher’s teacher informed me that he had won the contest for his school, and he was one out of ten students that were chosen for the entire school district. He and the other students’ Christmas card artwork will be used on the school district’s 2007 Christmas Cards that will be sent out all over the state of Mississippi and to the President of the U.S. They also invited us to attend their weekly school board meeting last week, where Christopher was recognized and given a Christmas stocking full of goodies. He was so excited, and I was so proud of him, because he really behaved himself and sat still at the board meeting, and then walked up to receive his reward all by himself. I could have cried, my little boy is growing up! Hopefully, next week, they will be giving us the artwork back, so I can post it. It’s a Christmas tree, with Garfield dressed up in a Santa’s suit, of course.

Happy Birthday Big Boy!!

christopher-pics-001.jpg

Six years ago today, a very unique and beautiful little boy came into my life. Determined to be born on his due date, and causing quite a bit of scare. Me being in labor for nearly 14 hours, and part of that pushing for nearly 2 hours, my new first born baby came out very lethargic and not crying. The labor had put quite a bit of stress on him, so he was very exhausted. I was told not to worry, that he was fine and breathing without any problems, but little did I know that we would be spending the next 6 days in the hospital. The night he was born, he had a very mild seizure. Several tests were run, including a spinal tap on my one day old baby and another being an ultrasound on his head. The spinal tap showed blood in the spinal fluid, which is why they ordered the ultrasound. The ultrasound showed a very mild bleed inside the brain. They had seen this before, that it was very common, and often goes undetected. They said that it would absorb back into the brain, and he should be just fine, but they wanted to do more bloodwork to rule anything else out that might be more serious. Which is why we ultimately spent 6 days in the hospital waiting for blood tests that eventually came out normal.

Today, Christopher is an amazing little boy. He has such a good heart, and loves everybody so unconditionally. Although, his Autism has been a challenge for him, and us as well, we are still impressed at the progress he has made, and we are so proud of him. He amazes us everyday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTOPHER!!
